Roberta Chase and Chris Brandstadt
Thursday, November 12, 2009-Today we have 2 award recipients Roberta Chase and Chris Brandstadt from Appleby Elementary School nominated by Shelley Warnow, Elementary School Principal
It is an honor and privilege to nominate two teachers from Appleby Elementary School. Mrs. Roberta Chase and Mrs. Chris Brandstadt are fifth grade teachers who literally saved a student and her family from living on the street.
Last fall a fifth grade student and her family fell on hard times in an attempt to set up a mobile home. The family was living in a camper when the first snow fell. Working together, the teachers found and paid for emergency housing and furniture as well as providing the family with groceries. Both Chris and Roberta made personal and financial sacrifices to care for this family.
It soon became apparent that the family would not be able to move to their mobile home without considerable help. Again, Chris and Roberta recruited help and resources from the surrounding communities to help this family establish their home. Their labor of love carried through the summer.
As you can tell, Roberta and Chris are amazing people who give special meaning to their profession. They went above and beyond their responsibilities as teachers to save a family from homelessness. Both ladies would prefer that their good deeds go unnoticed, but I want the world to know how fortunate we are to have Chris Brandstadt and Roberta Chase in our midst at Appleby Elementary School.
Respectfully yours,
Shelley Warnow
