Tuesday, November 10, 2009-Today’s award recipient is Brenda Davis from “Brenda’s Bugs” nominated by Juliann Quinn
Dear Nominations Committee,
I am writing to nominate an exceptional early childhood educator who has touched our family’s life since 2005 when our son became one of her “Bugs”. Brenda Davis, an early childhood educator and owner of Brenda’s Bugs, a certified home based child care in Homer, is a gifted educator. I hope that you will take this opportunity to recognize Brenda for all that she does for the “Little Bugs” in her care. She provides all children in her care with an environment each day that has the perfect blend of structure, education, fun, and love. She communicates with us daily, provides opportunities to ask her questions and seek advice on typical childhood issues that we aren’t sure how to deal with, and opens up her home to our entire family. Staying true to her slogan “Have you hugged a bug today?”
Brenda is passionate about children. She provides opportunities for free play, but also creates projects that are educational and tons of fun for our children. With our consent, Brenda emails pictures of our children involved in their activities so that we can feel in touch with our children while we are apart. Brenda even takes the time to carbon copy these emails to grandparents, aunts, and uncles, and anyone else special to our family. Another one of Brenda’s passions is healthy living. She encourages lifelong healthy eating habits and exercise, and the children are always participating in an outdoor activity followed by a healthy meal or snack. Brenda’s with our children is simply amazing, and we feel that our children would not be who they are today without the love and care of Brenda Davis.
Although you traditionally award the Apple for the Teacher Award to school-aged teachers, this is a time when our economy is unpredictable. Good jobs are at a premium, families are struggling to make ends meet, and early childhood educators like Brenda Davis are greeting children each morning with the hugs, love, and support us all so desperately need. These outstanding educators also deserve recognition. I cannot think of a more deserving candidate for an Apple for the Teacher Award than Mrs. Brenda Davis.
Thank you for your consideration and for all that you do to recognize the outstanding educators in our community.
Sincerely, Mrs. Juliann Quinn First Grade Teacher Randall Elementary School Cortland Enlarged City School District
