Thursday, October 29, 2009 Today’s Apple for the Teacher Award recipient is Janie Clark from Caroline Elementary School nominated by Paula Klaben.
I would like to nominate Janie Clark for an Apple for the Teacher Award. I have often heard among Caroline Elementary School parents that having your child in Janie Clark's 5th grade class is the equivalent of winning the lottery. My son Kevin is currently in her class and now I can see this is true. After only a little over a month in her class our son is loving school and being challenged by her creative assignments. He has become a reader and now does his homework without being reminded. At curriculum night we heard about the calendar project they would be starting soon. Janie Clark's 5th grade class creates an environmental calendar each year incorporating the research, writing and drawings of the students surrounding an environmental theme. The class learns valuable skills in research and cooperation by working together to create a professionally published calendar. The students then sell the calendars to the public again learning valuable skills in marketing and accounting. They donate all profits to an environmental cause they have researched and voted on. I hope you choose Janie Clark for an Apple for the Teacher award our son is already feeling like a winner for having one of the best teachers in the school district and we'd love for her to be a winner too.
